Said to be interested in the remaining assets of Advanstar is Robert Krakoff, who is the former chairman-CEO of the company and whose Blantyre Partners is backed by the Blackstone Group. Also reportedly interested are Apprise Media backed by Spectrum Equity Partners, ABRY Partners and Warburg Pincus, according to the Post.
Looking at what's left, I imagine that the Licensing and Powersports properties would go in their own separate deals although buying both and flipping one or both later might work. Licensing still has an upside. And the online potential for the motorsports publications hasn't really been tapped yet.
The medical/pharmaceutical/dental/veterinary/science products would likely be bundled. I think this is what Apprise would be looking at since these properities could be a good fit with their recent Canon Communications acquisitions. Then again, they might take a shot at powersports.
And I'll take odds that Joe Loggia himself buys back MAGIC.
