We first reported on the nascent furniture show wars back in June, then again last month.
Now the politicos are getting into the fight and doing what politicos do best: spewing vitriol at each other.
Las Vegas mayor Oscar Goodman:
"If I lived in High Point, I'd either be committing suicide or looking for a ticket to Las Vegas."
Judy Mendenhall, High Point Market Authority president:
"I haven't put a gun to my head yet. And if I got on a plane it probably would not be to go to Las Vegas."
But it does sound like High Point has some issues, particularly with price gouging by local hoteliers during the Market.
We at TSMR don't believe the High Point Market will go away anytime soon - there is something about being near the source of furniture manufacturing that will always have appeal. And it's doubtful Vegas will ever attempt to become a furniture manufacturing center.
On the other hand, Vegas does have cheap hotels and doesn't roll up the sidewalks at 10pm.
