Javits Center Resorts to Bribes to Get Taxi Drivers to Come By

We missed this one last week, but seems that the Javits Center was offering prizes to NY cabbies in an effort to get them to come over during the National Retail Federation Conference.

Javits has earned a well-deserved reputation as the worst convention center in America from which to hail a cab.  Especially when it rains.  And doubly so if you're not going to the airport.  Drivers have been known to speed off after the passenger has already opened the door once informed that the fare will only be to a midtown hotel.

So it's nice to see Javits trying to do something on its own.  NYC government has never done a thing about it.  I guess they're waiting for the Jets to come back to build that subway line that's been in the works for the past 20 years.

Failing that, at least they could give the M34 its own lane.
